National research Tomsk State University

As the host of the 2nd University Cities Forum, the National Research Tomsk State University provides venue facilities for numerous events of the upcoming Forum. TSU is the oldest university in the Russian Asia. It was founded in 1878 as the Imperial Tomsk University by the decree of Alexander II and became the first university in the Asian part of Russia. For a long time, it remained the only university in a vast territory from the Urals to the Pacific Ocean.

In 2013, National research Tomsk State University became a participant in the so-called “5-100 project”. The goal of the project is to increase the competitive position of the leading Russian universities on the global market of education and research. In 2016, QS World University Rankings experts named TSU as a “breakthrough of the year”: the university showed the highest dynamics among Russian universities.

National Research Tomsk State University comprises 66 world-class laboratories in which Russian and international scientists work. More than 1,900 international students from 39 countries study at TSU (this is 15% of the total number of student body).

TSU Research Library

The Research Library and Tomsk State University were opened in the same year, 1888. The founder of the library was V.M.Florinskiy. Russian philanthropists, scientists, writers, and public figures played a vital role in amassing vast and unique collection of books in the Research Library. Book collections of G.A. Stroganov, V.A. Zhukovsky, S.M. Golitsyn, A.V. Nikitenko and others were the foundation of the Library funds. The first contribution to the Library was made by Count A.G. Stroganov, who donated to the University his father’s family library consisting of 22,626 volumes. Nowadays, the Library implements a strategy of information accessibility. All reading rooms provide open access to information. Various types of documents are available for work in reading rooms. There are also automated workplaces for readers, and librarians who are ready to help with finding information. Preservation of the documents is ensured by video systems, an automated check system at the exit, and an electronic inventory of book collections.

TSU Institute of Economics and Management

Tomsk State University is the cradle of higher economic education in Siberia. Economic sciences appeared in the history of Tomsk State University in October, 1898 when the Department of Political Economy and Statistics was established within the university Faculty of Law. Since then, the economic education at Tomsk State University has a long and difficult path of development.

In September 2016, the Institute of Economics and Management was established in TSU, which brought together the resources of three strong faculties of the university – Faculty of Economics, International Management Faculty and the Higher School of Business, with the active participation of the Corporate University of Sberbank (the largest Russian bank).

A special feature of the training at the institute is a very strong cooperation with partners – companies and banks, many of which have already joined the Board of Trustees of this newly created institute. Companies participate in the development of training programs, provide places for student practices and internships, conduct joint events – business schools, conferences, competitions and master classes, allocate individual scholarships for students.
