Thematic tracks of the Forum
TRACK 1 “CAMPUS IN THE CITY: ARCHTECTURAL ASPECTS OF OLD AND NEW CAMPUSES”
Transformation of social needs and extension of university functions determine construction of large university complexes that are integrated to the urban space as campuses. This process ensures appropriation of symbolic and value significance within the city. The prime example is “The Big University” project in Tomsk that sets the development vector for cooperation of universities. As result there is a request for creation of unite educational environment and favorable conditions for mobility of students, professors, scientific staff within the interuniversity campus. In this regard the main topic of this track is the principles of urban planning and development of university campuses for the purposes of architectural environment quality improvement that is the crucial factor for economic development and investment attractiveness of the universities and cities.
TRACK 2 “CAMPUS AS TESTING SITE FOR NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY”
This track is dedicated to the problems and opportunities of creating the platforms for demonstration and implementation of university technological developments and discussion of practices and experience of implemented projects in this area. Construction of “smart campus” is discussed during last several years in Russia. Nowadays it becomes one of the key objectives for universities. The track is dedicated to discussion of approaches to formulation of concepts “smart campus” and its implementation in Russian and foreign universities.
TRACK 3 “CAMPUS AS THE PLATFORM OF CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERACTIONS WITH SOCIETY”
The focus of this track is the issue of creating available, barrier-free environment for social interactions in the city, harmonious communication conditions in multicultural space. On the one hand, incorporation of the campus to the urban space ensures maintaining of university image as the open space. On the other hand, this incorporation promotes to formulation of effective measures in urban planning sphere and branding the city as the college town. The implementation of this approach needs to build a dialogue between university representatives, local administrations, architects and urban communities. This problem likewise is one of main focuses for this track.
TRACK 4 “CAMPUS AS CENTER OF HUMAN CAPITAL ATTRACTION”
The track will be aimed at discussing the issues and opportunities human capital attraction within the university campus. Innovative university developments joint with mainstreaming of new skills, knowledge and competencies that are connected with usage of modern technologies. The high level of human capital becomes in great demand under these conditions. Attraction and maintenance of human development is relevant both for university and the city. Consequently, the resources and mechanisms of the campus as the center of human capital attraction for sustainable development of the territory and creation of conditions for cooperation of city administration, citizens, academic institutes and business are the most discursive.
TRACK 5 “THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EVENT UNI4CITY”
This event is designed to involve young people in solving actual problems of creating the interuniversity campus project in Tomsk. Teamwork will be organized and aimed at the joint development of strategically significant directions of interuniversity campus according to the thematic tracks of the Forum:
– Campus as testing site for development of new technologies
– Campus as the platform for cross-cultural communications and interactions with society
– Campus as the center human capital attraction
