5th International University Cities Forum

The Fifth Anniversary College Town Forum will be devoted to the rethinking challenges that digital transformation poses for modern education and science. Rapidly emerging trends bring hope for a new paradigm in higher education that can be free from social differentiation, digital inequality and racism. In the face of new challenges, the university city is forced to master both real and virtual contexts in order to manage the expectations of society. The adaptation of urban communities and spaces to new realities is a general task of the city and the university. Their collaboration become the key to success in the face of global competition. The mission of the university in these conditions is not only the generation and transmission of knowledge, but also the formation of new trends and needs in the development of the individual’s potential for its compliance with global changes.

The following Forum program will be discussed:

– opportunities and problems of higher education in the new realities of digitalization and social challenges, such as digital inequality and digital competencies, taking into consideration the best methodological and technological foreign experience in the context of Russian universities practices, aimed, among other things, at promoting sustainable development of a multicultural world.
– problems of science in the era of global challenges, including such aspects as the ethics of scientific research and the ethics of groundbreaking personified technologies; availability of scientific knowledge and human ability to quickly assimilate and use scientific achievements.
– “third role” of the university for the sustainable development of the city and the region. Discussions will focus on how the university, city and region should change in order to be more successfully integrated into the global economy, to be competitive there and improve the quality of life of the population and sustainable development of territories.
– distinctive features of the “city-forming” role of universities, which develops in the interaction of city-universities student communities with the external environment in everyday life, education, communication through presentation introduced by these communities.
